Mechanism Design Mondays x SF Crypto Art: IPFS Protocols.. but make it Art

  • Starfish Mission 1535 Mission Street San Francisco, CA, 94103 United States (map)

On this Mechanism Design Monday (with a Crypto Art twist), we will explore InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) applications for creative ecosystems in mechanism design theory and practice!

Speakers: Benton C Bainbridge, Travis Uhrig, Beth McCarthy

• THEORY HOUR (6:30 – 7:30 pm) --> discourse on IPFS

- break down how IPFS enables data to be stored and "persist" on the decentralized web
- discussion will feat. super clear diagrams for the artists among us & be keyed to the IPFS whitepaper for those who choose to participate in "nerd mode"

• PRACTICE HOUR (7:30 – 8:30 pm) --> workshop on hashing & hosting art (and other data) on the blockchain with IPFS

- walk through the process for creating singular "rare" digital artefacts with artHash in a workshop led by digital artist Benton C Bainbridge
- learn how to securely store and share art (and other data) on the decentralized web with IPFS persistence consortiums
- follow along with Starfish as we join partner Bushwick Generator in onboarding to Benton's decentralized art persistence consortium

• ~HAPPY HOUR(S)~ --> we will depart to Forgery Bar (downstairs from Starfish) to continue connecting over cocktails!

MECHANISM DESIGN MONDAYS TELEGRAM GROUP: https://t.me/joinchat/Istjlw_rxmhJgugi9kWRog

Mechanism Design Mondays are for analyzing the strategic design, game theory and dynamic systems in blockchain, decentralized networks and beyond.

Sometimes feat. a speaker or workshop on a certain theme, sometimes feat. a use case to hack on, and always an opportunity for discourse on the current subjects of the biweekly Whitepaper Book Club at Starfish.

We welcome you to bring your own whitepaper, protocol design, crackpot half-formed idea etc. to rend & build up together... or just sit in companionable silence reading those articles & whitepapers you always mean to get around to.

As always, internet friends can catch this on Hangouts – check this event page for today's link!
